PREFACE PROPANE- A clear odorless product in its natural state is a hydrocarbon, C3H8. Propane is a versatile fuel with 65% of it being extracted from natural gas and the remaining 35% captured in a crude oil refining process. By pressurizing the vapor into a liquid Propane becomes one of the Liquid Petroleum Gases (LP-Gas) in the industry, and becomes a compact fuel. This energy source now fills a need where a clean-burning fuel is required for power, heat or light beyond where natural gas lines end or where portability counts. Safety, transportation, storage, installation and venting guidelines are regulated by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Pamphlet 58 and Pamphlet 54. GROWMARK supports and works with each State Propane Gas Association represented in the trade area. Each State Association adopts the latest NFPA code. We must also use these practices daily to support safety in the industry.
1-5 Qualification of Personnel. Persons who transfer liquid LP-Gas, who are employed to transport LP-Gas, or whose primary duties fall within the scope of this code shall be trained in proper handling procedures. The training shall be documented. 1998 NFPA, Pamphlet 58, page 58-6. This manual is a compilation of information from various sources. All Propane references that follow can be found in Pamphlet 58 and Pamphlet 54. This manual is only a portion of the reference material in a Propane Salesmans career.
